TEFL – or teaching English as a Foreign Language – might be steadily on the increase post-Covid, but do you know what a TEFL qualification is and how useful it can be?
What is a TEFL certificate?
A TEFL certificate is a qualification you are given once you have completed a TEFL course. This certificate allows you to teach English to language learners all over the world and online. With a TEFL qualification you can teach English to students of all ages. You can teach General English, English for Academic Purposes, Business English – and more.
How useful is a TEFL certificate?
A TEFL certificate is a very flexible qualification.
Teaching English as a foreign language can take you to almost any country in the world. But what many people don’t realise is that a TEFL qualification is a doorway to many other work options besides teaching.
We asked some graduates from one of the most well-recognised TEFL courses in the world – The TEFL Academy – to tell us how they have used their TEFL certificate. Basically we asked them: How useful is a TEFL qualification?
The TEFL Academy Review: Jack
The TEFL Academy Reviews tell us Jack is from the UK. He was working in recruitment in Manchester and decided to do a TEFL course. He found a job teaching at a school in Vietnam, but soon this led him onto even greater things.
He told us: “Within 18 months I became a Headteacher and a trainer at the language centre. I train the new teachers who join the company. None of this would have been possible without The TEFL Academy. I now wake up every morning, looking forward to work. I teach a variety of ages and levels, ranging from 4-16 and every day is different. It was the best decision I ever made.”
The TEFL Academy review: John
John did a TEFL course with The TEFL Academy and he quickly found a job teaching in a school in Shanghai, China. After just six months as a TEFL teacher he was asked to be the Recruitment and Communications Officer.
“The techniques and experiences I had in The TEFL Academy course really supported my teaching in the classroom and all my students were successfully progressing and learning English. I am really enjoying my new role as I can now offer the very enjoyable opportunity I have had to more TEFL Academy graduates.”
The TEFL Academy review: Naomi
Naomi has a slightly different story.
She did a postgraduate degree in Psychology before deciding to do a TEFL course. She moved to Vietnam where she taught, travelled – and started a Life Coaching business!
“The children I taught absolutely stole my heart and even taught me some things about myself. I got clients from all over the globe (USA, UK, Ireland, SA etc) which is an experience I cannot replace for someone who wants to create a global business.”
The TEFL Academy review: Maryse
TEFL Academy Reviews tell us And finally, Maryse is the perfect example of how teaching English abroad affords you the opportunity to create a life you’ve always wanted.
“ I received my Level 5 TEFL Certificate and my Teaching Business English certificate from The TEFL Academy in May 2020. I’m a personal development blogger, a photographer, and an online undergraduate university student, and I’ve always imagined my long-term career to be quite similar to that of a digital nomad. Online language tutoring is a perfect way to complement my current work, and I love it! My TEFL certificate has already paid itself off and is bringing so much value into my life on a daily basis. This was one of my best investments ever.”
As you can see, a TEFL certificate is more than a teaching qualification. It is a doorway to new and different things – who knows where it will take you?
